Atelier Thissen (a piece of history)
As a child I grew up amidst the sculptures of my ancestors.
Joseph M. H. Thissen born 1840 was the son of a butcher in Roermond. He studied Fine Arts in sculpting in Antwerp and held a studio there until he came back to Roermond in 1883. There he founded his Atelier, which remained established until 1956. After his death in 1920, two of his sons (including my great-grandfather Christophe Thissen (1887-1956)) took over the studio. I still cherish and admire some of the sculptures inherited by my family. Soon there will be more history and photo’s about my ancestors.
